Interests
Holistic health has long been an interest of mine, especially high level wellness, women's health, alternative healing, and mind-body connections. I've worked as a herbalist, midwife, childbirth educator (specializing in working through psychological issues that would otherwise inhibit natural birth), parenting educator, promoter of in-arms parenting, massage therapist (specializing in emotional release), and volunteered at medical and healing clinics.
I love and respect the earth and nature and feel most connected spiritually to earth based spirituality. I love to hike, garden, feel the soil in my hands, I love outdoor smells, fresh air, camping, the beach. I have been studying Permaculture for ten years and recently took the Permaculture design course. I am also an outrigger canoe paddler.

ON SANTA BARBARA GLOBAL VILLAGE
I was very excited to hear of this class and possibility for connection and it seemed like good timing for me. I originally came to Santa Barbara in the 70s and here I was introduced to many of my life long interests, including yoga, herbology, hiking, organic gardening, feminism, natural foods, and world music. I left to see the world, although I mostly got as far as Mexico, where I lived for 17 years. There I learned from indigenous midwives and healers, artisans and artists, people in transition, and from my children, who grew up there. I returned to Santa Barbara in 1999 but have been overwhelmed by making a living, something I'd never thought I'd get caught in in this way (still looking for the lesson sometimes) and have been mostly over-busy, stressed, and isolated during this time. Now that my children have left home, I am finding a way to live more from my essential self and I am longing to relate to others who are also looking for more community. I do regret that I could never find community for us as a family here; since my sons were teenagers when we came here, we all found individuals or separate groups to relate to, but never a whole, and this still saddens me.
