MAY 2010 NEWSLETTER
Dear GTW Community,
Gather the Women has been inviting women to come together since 2002, knowing the gathering to
be a step toward the creation of a new paradigm, a new world. Our core leadership has come through
several generations, and we've moved from hosting International Gatherings, to supporting Continental
Gatherings to connecting Regional Gatherings. In-person connections are always partnered with online
and teleconference reminders, and new initiatives seem to arise out of GTW conversations in all these
venues.
We are women following the "yes" in a very organic way, with an open heart, noticing what shows up,
and learning to let our heart lead the way. Our circle practices are unfolding a new way of being
together that welcomes each woman and her heart's desire to participate at the many different
levels.
Below you will find us collaborating with other organizations, and fostering local-global connections,
issuing more calls to gather, on May 9th, Mother's Day in many countries, and on August 19-22 with
GTW in Burlingame near San Francisco. Please join us... there is much to be done to create this new
world.
Fostering local and global unity for a better world, May 9, 2010
Gather the Women is pleased to be linking arms with our sister organizations to invite you
to gather, declare, and connect around a global moment of unity for a better world on May 9, 1 pm!
Standing Women:
Please gather with us on the second Sunday of May 2010, 1 pm as we follow the 4 year old tradition
launched by our sister organization Standing Women in 2007. See their
full invitation here.
"Please stand with us for five minutes of silence at 1 p.m. your local time on May 9, 2010 (Mother's Day
in many countries), in your local park, school yard, gathering place, or any place you deem appropriate,
to signify your agreement to stand for the children and grandchildren of the world and for the seven
generations beyond them. We ask that you bring bells to ring at 1 p.m. to mark the beginning of the
five minutes of silence and to ring again to signify the end of the period of silence. During the silence,
please think about what you individually and we collectively can do to attain this world."
Register where you will stand in support of a better world at www.standingwomen.org, to
inspire and support one another as we each take our next steps toward that better world.
Ways Women Lead:
We are also pleased to forward an initiative by Ways Women Lead as they invite women worldwide to
read a Declaration that begins "We the Women of the World..." also on Mother's Day. Their
declaration, against sex trafficking and for the dignity of womankind, has been co-created with their
Bulgarian partner organization, the Association for Human Rights, Step by Step.
"Now is the time to come together around the issue of sex trafficking. It is a symptom of a system
gone terribly wrong. In this declaration, we stand together and show our unity as women, affirming
the value and dignity of ourselves, our children, each human being. We require change NOW. A
better world must start with the valuing of its women and children. This is the responsibility of every
inhabitant of the earth, every institution, every person."
Print out the petition here and add your signature to the declaration here. If you choose to
read the "We the Women of the World" Declaration following your moment of silence with Standing
Women, please convey that information when you register at www.standingwomen.org.
Gather the Women Global
Matrix :
As you gather with other Standing Women on May 9, please consider collecting names and inviting a
women's group to form in your area that would meet regularly. You might partner with a friend to
anchor your group, and also join the circle of GTW group coordinators that are anchoring circles and
events through the US, around the world and on the Internet.
GTW Regional Coordinators in the U.S. meet once a month on regular telecalls, plan additional local-
global gatherings around agreed upon topics, and support one another to build community while
staying connected globally. We are currently developing our international and Internet coordinator
programs and would be pleased to welcome you into those co-creations as well.
"Regional Coordinators in the US, International Anchors, and Internet Coordinators seek to reach all
women from all belief systems and political paths. We are not trying to change minds but to connect
hearts. We believe that once we are connected heart to heart and move into the deeper qualities and
values of the universal feminine, change for the good of all is created."
Call Joy@gatherthewomen.org to find out more
about becoming a GTW Coordinator and staying connected with other groups doing the same
thing.
