I was re introduced to Karen mendyka about ten years ago in Sr Masters Track and Field competitions. She still threw the Javelin then and as I recall was a grandmother. Her distances were outstanding. Her mother was alive at that time, late 80s, and also occasionally threw the shot. If I recall correctly Karen lived in Chicago, but would follow the Masters schedule and compete in selected meets on the west coast. I last saw her at Occidental College. It's been three years since I've competed, so I don't know if she is still active. I'm scheduled to throw the shot in Pasadena this June, so if I see her there I will let all of you who are interested know. Art Altshiller
