Hi Beverly Taber!

Yes, you are right. There was a dance called The Continental. It was a refined, technical version of the Argentine Tango. It is probably the most demanding of all smooth dances to execute.

I believe Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers did it in one of their early films. I recall Marge and Gower Champion doing a version of the dance later. But I don't recall it being done in the 50's or 60's? I am sure they still did it at ballroom dance classes and ballroom competitions which you may have seen on television.
