One of you mentioned going down to Glendale… to me, Glendale always seemed to be just out of reach for us Tujunga kids.

My friends and I seemed to be able to get as far as Bob’s Big Boy on the way to Glendale, but usually that was it. Once in a while we got as far as the skating rink to watch the Glendale girls.

A friend of mine from La Canada fixed me up once on a double date with a Glendale girl, and with my inferiority complex, it turned out to be a misery for both of us. Her name is Nadine Vukadinovich, and to that time, she was the single most beautiful young woman I had ever seen.

She and her mother had emigrated from Yugoslavia to the US after the war and to me had a sort of European mystery. I cannot even remember where we went that night… or what we did or said. I only am sure the poor girl never wanted to see me again.

Ah, youth… if only we could relive it.
