The word Obuntubotho is a Zulu word that describes the essence of being human. This is the word Bishop Desmond Tutu used when he introduced Nelson Mandela at his inauguration as the new president of South Africa.  Obuntubotho speaks about humanness, gentleness, putting yourself out on behalf of others, being vulnerable.  It embraces compassion and toughness. It recognizes that our humanity is bound up with one another, for we can only be human together.  Another Zulu word that I love is Ubuntu, that means community in the African understanding of community.  I am because you are.  The Journey to Sophia and Beyond is about Ubuntu and because of one another becoming buntubotho, Sophia Ambassadors.  Namaste!!!
