Hi everyone, I'm really glad that we have this way of connecting with each other besides the class time at Adult Ed this spring. I was able to come to the first three classes, and as I explained to those of you who were at that third meeting, I was going to be out of town for the last two sessions, taking a Permaculture Design Course at Quail Springs Learning Oasis near Ojai, CA (actually New Cuyama). Then I had a computer problem on the Tuesday before I left that prevented me from attending that class, although I had been looking forward to it.

I had such a wonderful time in the mountains, and a lot of it was because some of the elements of true community were in place there, people open and available to have meaningful conversations and WE HAD THE TIME to finish our conversations, not just get them in snatches. As I met and related to the others in the group, I often thought about what I had heard in the Adult Ed class on community--to truly listen to the other person talking, without having an agenda or trying to get my point in when they finished. I think I'm a pretty good listener in general, but this helped to remind me even more of the importance of listening in good communication.

anyway, I am back and looking forward to reconnecting with many of you to move forward in our dream to create the community we want here in Santa Barbara. I am wondering if any new groups were formed or any new possibilities came out of the class that I may want to align with and that would welcome me. looking forward to hearing back from whoever is moved to reply. best wishes, barbara
